Vocabulary learning, also called word learning,is the most basic part of English learning.English words are composed of three parts. They are sound, shape and meaning.Among them, there are certain rules between sound and shape. In many years of English teaching practice, the author finds that the students with poor English performance are mainly reflected in the poor grasp of English vocabulary, and they think that reading and memorizing words is the biggest difficulty in English learning. From this,we can find there is a serious situation of “phonetic separation”,that is,separating the “sound” from “form”,which leads to pronunciation errors, spelling errors, memory difficulties and so on,which affects the learning of English language, and then reduces the interests in English learning. The author selected the students of two classes in the third grade of a primary school in Nankai District of Tianjin as the research object. The students in the experimental class were taught the Phonics for one semester, while the control class adopted the traditional teaching mode to teach the vocabulary of the textbook.By comparing and analyzing the data of the experimental class and the control class, the following conclusions are drawn:First,Phonics can help students improve their vocabulary recognition ability.Second,Phonics improves pupils' interests in English learning.Third, the practice of Phonics in primary English classroom should adopt flexible and changeable teaching strategies. In addition, through this experimental study,we can get the following enlightenment to the future:(1)While Phonics has positive promotion effect onto English vocabulary learning in Primary schools, whether Phonics also has the promotion function on reading ability? It is worth to carry on the related research.(2)How to integrate Phonics with the teaching materials is worth to practice and research for more English teachers.
