In this age of information explosion,good reading literacy is an important contributing factor for personal development,and also a vital foundation for improving the quality of a country's people and empowering national competitiveness.Countries around the world have made various attempts and explorations to promote nationwide reading and improve English reading literacy.With the promotion of "advocating national reading and building a society with fragrance of books",reading is obtaining an increasing amount of importance in China.In particular,the happiness and knowledge embedded in reading English picture books is incomparable to other learning methods.However,in traditional primary school English teaching,reading only serves as a skill but the cultivation of students' English reading literacy is neglected,resulting in the low interest of students1 reading.This thesis starts with the current situation of primary school English reading and conducts action research with ten fourth grade primary school students in Yunnan Province within 12 weeks for two rounds in the form of English picture book reading practice.The thesis aims to explore the effects of English picture books on primary school students' English reading interest in Yunnan Province.This study used pre-reading test and post-reading test to collect quantitative data to verify the validity of the study.Picture book reading feedback forms were used to observe changes in students1 reading interest.The study also used interviews,teaching journals and data coding lethod to collect qualitative data from three perspectives:teachers,parents and students.The study shows that English picture book reading has not only stimulated students' reading interest,but also improved it greatly,students1 reading comprehension has also been enhanced Therefore,reading English picture book is an effective way to stimulate the reading interest of fourth-grade primary students.Reading activities used in this study can provide a beneficial practice to cultivate primary school students' interest in English reading and to develop primary students' English reading literacy.
