Haruki Murakami is a famous contemporary Japanese writer.His writings sold well all over the world and have been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature for many times.Although Murakami was born in Japan,his writings were deeply influenced by European and American literature and absorbed the creative techniques and narrative techniques of Western post-modernist literature.At the same time,his novels take the modern city as the background.From the perspective of post-modernism,reflect on the living environment of modern people.This thesis takes Murakami's many novels as the research object,and studies the urban space,the individual city and the artistic representation of the novel.The author systematically analyses the urban writing in Murakami's novels,and stud ies Murakami's exploration and reflection on the individual living conditions of modern cities.This thesis consists of three parts: introduction,main text and conclusion.The introduction mainly introduces Haruki Murakami's life and creation,and combs the research status of his writings at home and abroad,as well as the significance of the topic selection and research ideas of the thesis.The main text is divided into three parts to discuss and analyze the urban writing in Murakami's novels.The first chapter mainly analyses the urban space constructed by Murakami in his novels.In the discussion of several typical relationships between space and characters,it shows the village's attitude towards the city and its emphasis on the subjectivity of people in the city.In the second chapter,the author analyses the existential predicament and spiritual crisis faced by urban individuals in the novel,and shows his different understandings and opinions on this issue in the light of different stages of Murakami's literary creation.In his early writings,Haruki Murakami reveals the loneliness essence of life from his own spiritual world and reflects the estrangement and apathy between people in the city.After more than ten years of overseas life and several major accidents in Japan,Murakami began to explore how to establish contact with others,how to behave in social reality and how to find his true self in his writings,thus enhancing the realistic significance and literary value of the novel.In the third chapter,the author starts from the artistic features of the novel,and analyses the important role of the post-modernist features in the novel in fully presenting the plight of urban individual survival.The conclusion summarizes the research results of this thesis,and once again clarifies the practical significance of Murakami's novel to contemporary society.
