Perspective plays an important role in Western art. This perspective consciousness first appeared in ancient Greece and Rome, which is similar to the illusion effect in stage mentioned in Marcus Vitruvius Pollio’s De architectura libri decem.Later, the perspective consciousness has developed further after the development of late Middle Ages and early Renaissance, and became more abundant until now.The perspective is mainly divided into linear perspective and nonlinear perspective, the linear perspective creates space through optics and geometric projection, and nonlinear perspective construct spatial sense based on color, atmosphere and chiaroscuro.Their evolution is the result of constant exploration by artists and scientists in practice.Perspective in ancient Greece and Rome belongs to non-scientific linear perspective, which differs from the current scientific linear perspective. On the basis of scientific developments such as optics and projection geometry in the Middle Ages,Renaissance architect Brunelleschi invented linear perspective, and then the study of linear perspective became more mature through the systematic study of Alberti and Francesca. At the same time, the non-linear perspective initiated in Renaissance mainly created spatial effects by color, acuity and chiaroscuro, which were further explored through Nicolas Poussin and Zaccolini in 17th century. The article mainly discusses the origin, development and related theoretical knowledge of perspective, which divided into three chapters. The first chapter discusses in detail the source of the term“perspective”,classifies and defines the perspective. The second chapter discusses both types of non-scientific linear perspective and scientific perspective with analyzing its technique differences and culture background, which reveals its evolution process. The third chapter discusses the origin and development clues of non-linear perspective, especially pointing out the outstanding contribution of Zaccolini. |
