The feedback on junior high students' writing is mostly from their teacher. On the one hand, this evaluation mode has brought a great burden to teachers. On the other hand,it is difficult to ensure the validity and comprehensiveness of the feedback and the appropriate guidance for students.Peer feedback not only greatly lightens the teacher's heavy burden of correcting, but also offers another possibility for students composition revision.Studies at home and abroad have shown that the effect of peer feedback on students' composition revision is influenced by their language level. Both the reviewer's and the author's language level play important roles in students'composition revision. Then, some scholars have put forward that the effectiveness of peer feedback on composition revision is influenced by the interaction between the reviewer's and the author's language level. Therefore, this paper aims to find the influence of students'language level on the effectiveness of peer feedback on composition revision. The subjects were 48 second-year students in a junior middle school in Wuhan. The study is divided into four stages:1.at the preparation stage, students are divided into different language levels according to their language proficiency and their writing proficiency, they are divided into three levels, high level, middle level, and low level.2.introducing peer review and organizing peer review activity to get students to know how to review their peers' compositions and give feedback.3.conducting teaching experiments and providing necessary guidance.4.assigning questionnaires and collecting all textual data after the teaching experiments. This study found that:Firstly, the reviewer's language level can affect the effectiveness of peer feedback. The practicality and the adoption of peer feedback are positively correlated with the reviewer's language level.Second, the authors' language level also affects the effectiveness of peer feedback. The adoption of practical peer feedback and the amount and rate of correct revisions are different between authors of different language levels.Thirdly, the effectiveness of peer feedback is affected by the reviewer's and the author's language level interactionally. The peer feedback from high-high pairs is the most effective, and the peer feedback from high-low pairs is the second most effective. The effectiveness of peer feedback from the middle-middle and the middle-low is nearly the same.Peer feedback from the low-low is the least effective, and peer feedback from the high-middle is just better than that from the low-low.
