To communicate effectively and fluently is the purpose of any communication activity(Gao,1992).Educational communication is just the one of this kind.It is an interchange of information between teachers(broadly educators)and students(broadly educatees).In this information interchange process appropriate knowledge and competence,process and method,and thoughts and ideas are transmitted from the educators to the receivers based on certain teaching materials selected by teachers through effective communication channels according to certain requirements(Nan,2005).Communication channels play a key role.However,in educational communication,due to various factors,education information is more than often not effectively communicated,thus affecting the receiving side of educational communication,having a negative effect on students' learning initiative and positivity.Multimedia teaching is a kind of teaching process using multimedia to comprehensively handle and control language and text,audio and video materials and other media information,and,through intelligent processing,eventually project them on the projector according to the teaching requirements.It is a teaching or training process realizing human-computer interaction between the user and the computer operation.The human-computer interaction and immediate feedback are the distinctive advantages of multimedia technology.Multimedia teaching makes it possible for students to actively participate in the interactive learning environment,thus doing good to give free rein to the initiative and enthusiasm of students in the classroom.However,in our country,students in high school tend to show a passive attitude towards English learning.Consequently,their English learning motivation should be strengthened.Based on the above two points,it is naturally for the writer to consider whether the lack of wide use of multimedia teaching plays a role in students' passive English learning motivation and whether the multimedia teaching to some extent contributes to the effective communication between teachers and students,so as to improve high school students' English learning motivation?To verify the above hypothesis,basing the research mainly on educational communication theory namely the educational communication elements,educational communication aisles and pathways,teachers' and students' communication psychology,forms of interaction between students and teachers,effects of classroom teaching,the writer conducted an investigation on students from Class 1 Grade 1 in Daye Experimental High School,by using qualitative and quantitative analysis method.First,investigate all the 50 students' English learning motivation at the beginning of the semester,in the middle of the semester and at the end of the semester respectively by using Gardner's Intensity of Learning Motivation Questionnaire(Questionnaire 1),and then compare the influence of multimedia teaching on the students' English learning motivation.Second,after ascertaining the relationship between multimedia teaching and students' English learning motivation,conduct semi-structured interviews with 15 sample students from Class 1 Grade 1 to research which elements of English learning motivation are influenced by English multimedia teaching.Third,by using self-made questionnaire(Questionnaire2),which is based on the theory of educational communication channels,collect the relevant information of students' feedback on the impact of multimedia teaching on their English learning initiative and enthusiasm,to clearly figure out how multimedia teaching penetrates influence on students' English learning motivation.With the aid of software,this research made a descriptive analysis of the statistics of questionnaire data.Based on the analysis of the data,together with the information collected from the semi-structured interview,it is concluded that:1.According to the motivation intensity questionnaire,the survey results show the majority of the students' English learning motivation has a positive increasing tendency,and together with the results of semi-structured interviews,it can be concluded that multimedia teaching has an effect on three aspects or elements of students' English learning motivation,namely interest in learning,students' confidence and students' self-efficacy.2.According to the results of the survey and the interviews,it can be concluded that multimedia teaching penetrates impact on students' English learning motivation through ways of students-teachers communication aisles,students-students communication aisles,students-media communication channels.Based on the above results,combined with the current situation of utilization of multimedia in English classroom teaching in high school English,this paper discusses how to improve students' English learning motivation through the use of multimedia teaching in high school English classes from the perspective of teachers.In the meantime,the dissertation states out the limitation of the study,so as to upgrade the related research in this field in the future.
