| Foreign aid training is an important part of foreign aid by China, which is partially undertaken by the Commerce Department of Hunan province. This report is based on the reporter’s interpreting experience of "South Sudan Mining Management Training Project"from May 23rd to June 22nd,2018 in Changsha. In the course of the project, the reporter encountered two types of barriers, namely, barriers from the perspective of interpreting and those deriving from her narrow understanding of interpreter’s role.Barriers from the perspective of interpreting are embodied by her poor logic analyzing capacity, information storage problem and unfamiliarity with mining management terminology. In regard to the reporter’s narrow understanding of interpreter’s role,it falls into two categories, namely, ignorance of cultural differences and that of the role as a teaching assistant.Drawing on literature both at home and abroad and her personal reflection, the reporter puts forward the following solutions. As for the barriers from the perspective of interpreting, the logic analyzing capacity of the reporter can be enhanced by practice;information needs storing by taking a global view;the terminologies can be prepared in advance and acquired in class.Concerning the reporter’s narrow understanding of the interpreter’s role,cross-cultural awareness needs to be developed;translation strategies and translation methods should be adopted;and the role of teaching assistant should be performed by giving full play to the interpreter’s subjectivity. This report elaborates on barriers that are prone to occur and the role interpreters should perform during interpreting based on authentic data, with the hope of providing reference to interpreters in technical interpreting, especially mining management interpreting. |
