As a basic subject, mathematics emphasizes the role of methods in learning.Applying various strategies to solve mathematics tasks effectively and flexibly is an important way to improve the quality of learning, improving the mathematical strategy selection flexibility of students helps to promote students' mathematics learning.Existing research on strategy selection flexibility has focused on exploring the influencing factors, and there is still a lack of tools to measure mathematical strategy selection flexibility. The establishment of a measurement tool of mathematical strategy selection flexibility can not only expand the field of flexibility measurement, but also directly measure the mathematical strategy selection flexibility of primary and middle school students, and help to obtain regularity cognition of the mathematical strategy selection flexibility among primary and middle school students.202 primary school students and 191 middle school students in Suzhou were measured in the first study.Based on three research paradigms, the study established three tests of mathematical strategy selection flexibility with good reliability, validity and discrimination in primary and middle schools. The three tests are the Complete Free Choice Test, the Limited Free Choice Test, and the Matching Choice Test.Based on the data collected in the first study, the second study analyzed the current situation of the mathematical strategy selection flexibility of primary and middle school students, and showed more about the preference for strategy choice among primary and secondary school students. The third study explored the relationship between mathematical strategy selection flexibility, preference for strategy choice and personality. The main conclusions of this study are as follows:1.The reliability, validity and item discrimination of three tests of mathematical strategy selection flexibility meet the requirements of measurement in primary and middle schools, and there are differences among the three tests. These three tests can be used as tools to measure the mathematical strategy selection flexibility in three different situations.2.There were significant differences in mathematical strategy selection flexibility in three situations among primary and middle school students.Primary school students had the highest flexibility in complete free choice, followed by matching choice, and the lowest flexibility in limited free choice. However, middle school students had the highest flexibility in matching choice, followed by limited free choice and the lowest flexibility in complete free choice.3.Mathematical strategy selection flexibility for primary and middle school students was significantly different in gender and grade. In primary school, the flexibility of boys'complete free choice was significantly higher than that of girls. In middle school, the flexibility of matching choice of boys was significantly lower than that of girls. The flexibility of complete free choice decreased as the grade rising, and the flexibility of limited free choice and matching choice increased as the grade rising.4.Primary and middle school students with high flexibility in Mathematical strategy selection had their own unique personality traits. In some types of questions, primary school students with high flexibility of limited free choice had high agreeableness, and primary school students with high flexibility of matching choice had high agreeableness, high extroversion and high conscientiousness.Middle school students with high flexibility of complete free choice had high openness, and middle school students with high flexibility of matching choice had high neuroticism.5.Some primary and middle school students had preference for strategy choice in the process of strategy selection. In the context of complete free choice, primary school students had no preference for strategy choice, some middle school students preferred other strategies.Middle school students' preference for strategy choice was related to Big Five personality.Middle school students with low openness and extroversion were more likely to have preference for strategy choice. In the context of limited free choice, some primary and middle school students had preference for strategy choice, and they all preferred to choose RD strategy, having the tendency of choosing strategies Economically.Primary and middle school students' preference for strategy choice was not related to Big Five personality.
