One of the indispensable tools in the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language is the textbook.It plays an indispensable role.Not only teachers' teaching ability but also students' learning efficiency will be affected by the quality of the textbooks.The primary textbook of TCSL is the first material for zero-based Chinese learners.Its leads to the learners' Chinese basic knowledge,the communicative ability,and their interest in learning Chinese.This paper selected two sets of zero-basic textbooks,"40 Lessons For Basic Chinese Course " and "HANYU JIAOCHENG" for comparison.First it compared the difference in total design.Then it analyzed the different ways in teaching about pronunciation,vocabulary,grammar and Chinese characters through the description,statistics and comparison.Finally,it also compared the content of each text.In addition,it discussed different practicing ways under each teaching element.The aim of comparison is finding differences,judging which is better and giving improving advice.So that we can edit better textbooks in the future.According to the comparison,it is concluded that the " 40 Lessons" is more practical and the "JIAOCHENG" focused more on theory.So the teachers who are using these two textbooks should foresee the effects which will happen on students and make strategies to satisfy the students' command.
