Chinese Character teaching is important as well as difficult in Chinese teaching. Finding an effective way for foreign students to learn characters faster and better is a key subject in Chinese Character teaching.《40 Lessons For Basic Chinese Course》is a popular Chinese textbook for foreign students. This paper makes a study on compiling an affiliated character textbook to《40 Lessons For Basic Chinese Course)) I mainly from the following aspects:Chinese character teaching orchestration, Chinese character knowledge arrangement and Chinese character exercises designing. In addition, the thesis presents the first lesson of the character textbook as an example illustration.Chapter 1 makes an brief introduction on the purpose,background and methods of the research, summarizes the studies on character textbook designing and the problems of current character textbooks, on which the thesis proposed an ideal construction of an Chinese character textbook.Chapter 2 works on designing the textbook based on the ideal textbook construction of 4 sections:Character learning, Rudiments, Exercises and Character lessons. The last three parts are discussed in the same section of Chapter 2. Research on section 1 focuses on how to teach characters and how to characters in order in the textbook under some rules, which is the core problem for the thesis. To sovle the problem, the thesis proposes a new teaching method "Component Association Teaching Method", by which the characters can be grouped in a reasonable way. Research on section 2 refers to character rudiments arrangement that should be presented in a character textbook. Research on section 3 starts from the purpose of exercises and discusses what to pay attention when designing character exercises. Research on section4 studies on some supplemental character knowledge that may be interesting for students.Chapter 3 works on the designing practice according to the research in Chapter 2. The practice on character orchestration is the most important part in this chapter.Chapter 4 presents the first lesson in the textbook as an example illustration.
