The political,economic,cultural and artistic aspects of the early Tang Dynasty showed a great development and prosperity.Tang Taizong Li Shimin's elegant calligraphy,especially Wang Xizhi's calligraphy,vigorously developed calligraphy education,established official schools for calligraphy professionals such as "Calligraphy" and Hongwenguan,and set up "Ming Shu" in the imperial examination system,which opened a "book for official" pioneer,and promoted the further prosperity of early Tang calligraphy.The theory of calligraphy education in the early Tang Dynasty was based on the Confucian doctrine of "the mean" and characterized by "upholding the law" as a whole.Ouyang Xun's works on calligraphy such as Eight Decisions and Thirty-six Facts are the earliest foundations of the idea of "upholding the law".Yu Shinan and Li Shimin of later generations further explained and developed the theory of "upholding the law",and established the aesthetic thought of "neutralization" in calligraphy.Li Sizhen's "Book Afterwards" ranked more than 80 calligraphers from the perspective of books.His "Yipin" standard enriched the content of calligraphy education thought in the early Tang Dynasty and had a pioneering significance.Sun Guoting's Book of Calligraphy covers many aspects of calligraphy learning,such as techniques,aesthetics,creative outlook,essence of calligraphy,aesthetic education of calligraphy,and so on.Therefore,Sun Guoting became a master of the educational thought of "advocating law" in the early Tang Dynasty.These calligraphers' calligraphy theory basically covers three aspects: skill education,aesthetic education and personality education.Skills education mainly focuses on pen,composition,composition,ink and so on,which shows the trend of strictly abiding by the law in skills during this period.Aesthetic education in calligraphy theory takes "the beauty of neutrality" as the highest aesthetic standard,and the specific expression of "the beauty of neutrality" is the artistic style of calligraphy such as "spirit","bone strength","quality and Yan".Yu Shinan and Li Shimin were the definite proponents of calligraphy aesthetic thought centered on the "beauty of neutrality" in this period.This aesthetic standard was still formed under the influence of Confucian aesthetic thought.The highest realm of calligraphy education in early Tang Dynasty is personality education.Calligraphy critics believe that calligraphy is the expression of calligraphers' works.The beauty of calligraphy art is the fundamental way to promote spiritual freedom and personality.Calligraphy education thought in the early Tang Dynasty guided the trend of calligraphy education of "Chongwang" in the future generations.The ideas of "three times and three changes","the past is not good,the present is different" and other learning ideas still have important reference significance for correcting the misunderstandings of contemporary calligraphy learning.Firstly,this paper analyses the political,economic,cultural and artistic background and the general situation of calligraphy education in the early Tang Dynasty,and systematically combs and summarizes the calligraphy education thoughts of calligraphers in this period,and explains in detail the position of Ouyang Xun,Yu Shinan,Li Shimin,Chu Suiliang,Li Shizhen and Sun Guoting's calligraphy education thoughts in the early Tang Dynasty.Secondly,on the basis of the educational thoughts of calligraphers,this paper divides the educational thoughts of calligraphy in the early Tang Dynasty into three levels: skill education,aesthetic education and personality education.The main characteristics of technical education are "advocating law",advocating rules and rules of technical writing;aesthetic education advocates calm aspirations in calligraphy style with "neutral" calligraphy aesthetic thought as its main feature;personality education advocates that calligraphy learning can promote people's spiritual freedom and personality goodness,and it advocates that the beauty of art has a significant impact on spiritual freedom and calligraphy's moral conduct.The last part of this paper elaborates the historical significance of the early Tang Dynasty's calligraphy education thought and Its Enlightenment to contemporary calligraphers.In today's social environment,calligraphy is no longer a "path",but an important means to achieve the perfection of human nature.
