English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017)clearly states that students are to be qualified with the ability of listening,speaking,reading,viewing and writing,among which,writing tends to be the biggest challenge for senior three students.In recent years,there has been sufficient research on English writing anxiety.Yet,there is no consensus on the causes of high school students' English writing anxiety.Through investigation of the situation of English writing anxiety among senior three students,this study aims at helping teachers and students change their cognition and perspective towards English writing,which will help to relieve students' writing anxiety and effectively improve the teaching and learning of English writing.In this study,questionnaires and interviews are adopted as research instruments.90 senior three students from Huangdai Senior High School in Jiangsu Province are selected as research subjects to conduct a questionnaire survey to understand the anxiety level of senior three students,and the data obtained are described by SPSS20.0,including the descriptive statistical analysis,pearson correlation and independent sample T test.In order to better understand the situation and causes of writing anxiety among senior three students,the author selects 9 students and 3 English teachers for interview and analyzes the interview results.The main issues discussed in this study are as follows:(1)Does anxiety exist in senior three students in their English writing?If yes,to what extent do they worry about it?(2)What are the major causes that contribute to senior three students' anxiety in English writing?It's been found in this study that writing anxiety is pretty common among senior three students,and the avoidance behavior is particularly significant.The study analyzes the main reasons contributing to senior three students' English writing anxiety from two aspects:internal factors and external factors.The internal factors of students include the following three aspects:students' lack of language reserves,fear of negative evaluation of teachers and peers,and misunderstanding of writing;external factors include teacher factors,writing topics,school factors and social factors.In this regard,this study proposes some teaching suggestions for teachers,students and parents.
