A Report On E-C Translation Of Hypnotherapy Certification Training Manual (Excerpt) From The Perspective Of Translator’s Subjectivity

Psychology is a science covering a wide range of professional fields.Having been almost ignored for past decades in China,it has become a popular subject nowadays,which indicates that more and more people are paying attention to psychological construction.Since psychology is essential for everyone,it boasts broad application prospect.As a branch of psychology,hypnosis is a special method of psychotherapy,and many people have doubted and feared about it.But in fact,it only achieves the therapeutic effect by changing the client’s subconscious state.HYPNOTHERAPY CERTIFICATION Training Manual from A-Z is a psychology text about how to conduct hypnosis operation.Therefore,the author of this report has selected some chapters of this book to do the translation practice,aiming to explain the role of the translator in translating psychological texts from the perspective of the translator’s subjectivity.Firstly,this report analyzes the text types and characteristics of the original text,and describes the whole process of translation practice from different perspectives including translation preparation,translation process and post-translation.Secondly,it analyzes the theory of translator’s subjectivity in the process of translation through specific examples,and makes a detailed analysis of the application of three functions of translator’s subjectivity in the process of translation.Finally,this report summaries and reflects on the problems in the process of translation practice,and points out the shortcomings in translation practice.In this practice report,it is found that:(1)Due to the particularity of hypnotic operation manual text attributes,the translator plays a very important role in the process of translation,although the text type belongs to the category of scientific and technological translation.(2)Psychological texts bear scientific characteristics,and at the same time,only when the text be affective can it touches people’s hearts,so it is of significance to adopt the theory of translator’s subjectivity.(3)Although empathy is frequently used in literary translation,it is also indispensable in translation of hypnotic operating texts.Without the expression of empathy and rendering function,the translation of hypnotic texts will be soulless.(4)Translating psychological texts requires the translator to make adequate translation preparation.Translating operational texts requires translators to have adequate hands-on experience,in order to understand the meaning conveyed by the original text more profoundly.Through this translation practice,the author believes that the theory of translator’ssubjectivity plays an active role in the translation of psychological texts.In addition,this report is helpful for Chinese people to have a clearer understanding in hypnotherapy.Mental health is as important to everyone as physical health,and we can heal ourselves and everyone around us through professional hypnotic learning.
