Zhang Guangyu's Research On Fine Art Fonts

Mr.Zhang Guangyu(1900-1965),a master of decorative arts,is both a master and an innovator of Chinese decorative arts.With his keen insight into the similarities and differences between Chinese and western cultures,Mr.Zhang Guangyu integrated the western realistic spirit into Chinese traditional art,and sought for the soul of Chinese art--the expression of spiritual implication and the pursuit of formal beauty.This paper takes Zhang Guangyu's font design as the research object.On the basis of previous studies,starting from his works,this paper conducts an in-depth case analysis of his works,focusing on the content and depth of his works.This paper is divided into three parts.The first part mainly summarizes the fine arts in the background of The Times,and introduces the background,definition and development of fine arts.The second part sorts out Zhang Guangyu's life,taking time as the axis,divides his works into four periods: budding period,mature period,Anti-Japanese War period and stable period,and then analyzes his artistic characteristics.Through understanding and analyzing the creation background and specific source of font,the confusion of visual aesthetics of font design in The Times can be solved.Through the study of the font works in various periods,we can find out how to combine the national culture with the western culture.The third part is based on the inspiration of Zhang Guangyu art font design practice.This article takes Zhang Guangyu's font design as the entry point,has carried on the massive analysis,thus has the deeper and the careful understanding to the font design modelling and the esthetic rule.Zhang Guangyu's font design works show his superb creative techniques,which is worth our attention.
