Lexical chunks have been widely accepted by both researchers and teachers as one of the key factors that influence the success of English learning.Moreover,for several decades,researchers in language acquisition and social psychology have recognized the importance of lexical chunks for successful foreign language learning.Besides,a great deal of research has been carried out regarding the application of lexical chunks at home and abroad during the past several decades.However,most of the previous studies of lexical chunks in China have been carried out among college students,but few focus on that of senior high school students.For instance,in China,Yang et al(1999)have done research into the functions of lexical chunks in English learning,showing that there are practical differences between lexical chunks theory and other theories.Therefore,it is necessary to carry out investigation into English writing among the Shicheng Middle School students in order to give English teachers pedagogical implications on how to motivate the Shicheng Middle School students and facilitate their English writing teaching.Based on the previous research,a questionnaire survey is conducted among 110 students from Jiangxi Shicheng Middle School to investigate their English writing learning.What's more,the questionnaire is designed according to Xia Chunlai's questionnaire and the statistical analysis is conducted by Statistical Package for Social Sciences 20.0(SPSS 20.0),which includes: Firstly,descriptive statistics is employed to reveal the attitude of English writing learning among students of Jiangxi Shicheng Middle School.Secondly,Independent Sample T-Test is conducted to find out the possible significant differences between the experimental class and the control class in terms of English writing.Meanwhile,Independent Sample T-Test is also computed to find if there is any significant difference among the experimental class and the control class in application of lexical chunks.Thirdly,Paired-Sample analysis is carried out to examine how different functions of lexical chunks are related to the Jiangxi Shicheng Middle School student's English writing scores.Lastly,the group statistics is carried out to find the power of lexical chunks to the Jiangxi ShichengMiddle School students' English writing proficiency.The study is intended to find answers to the following research questions:(1)The difficulties of English writing learning and the causes of writing learning difficulties in senior high school.(2)The advantages of lexical chunks in English writing and extent of its application in improving writing in senior high school.(3)The practical application of chunk theory in senior high school English writing.Based on the above empirical research findings,it can be found that lexical chunks,especially the function of lexical chunks does have a great impact upon the Shicheng Middle School students' English writing proficiency.Consequently,cultivating learners' lexical chunks awareness should be necessary in the English teaching and learning among the Shicheng Middle School students.At the same time,English teachers of Shicheng Middle School should take measures to arouse students' interest and develop their confidence in English learning.
