In the National English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017 Version),thinking quality has been clearly listed as one of the core elements of English subject quality for the first time.Increasingly more scholars have paid attention to cultivation of senior high school students' critical thinking.Critical thinking is a purposeful activity of self-calibration and self-judgment,mainly including six skills: interpretation,analysis,evaluation,inference,explanation and self-regulation.However,the cultivation of students' critical thinking has been neglected in senior high school teaching,especially in English writing teaching.Researches on critical thinking began later in China.There are fewer experimental researches focus on critical thinking skills training and English writing teaching.Therefore,it is necessary to conduct an experimental study on critical thinking skills training of English writing teaching in senior high school.This study is based on constructivism theory and comprehensible output hypothesis,aiming at studying the relationship between critical thinking skills training and students' English writing ability.Three research questions are presented as follows:(1)Can critical thinking skills training improve senior high school students' English writing ability?(2)Does critical thinking skills training have various effects on students with different English writing levels? If so,what are the effects respectively?(3)Is there a positive correlation between critical thinking skills and students' English writing ability?The experimental study lasted for 14 weeks.Students in two parallel classes are chosen as the subjects in senior high school.The teaching of English writing in the experimental class is basically the same as that in the control class.The difference is that the experimental class has carried out critical thinking skills training.In the whole process of the experimental study,the author collects data through questionnaire,interview and writing tests,using SPSS 24.0 to analyze the collected data.Through data analysis,the major findings are as follows:(1)Critical thinking skills training can improve senior high school students' English writing ability.(2)Critical thinking skills training has various effects on students with different English writing levels.(3)There is a positive correlation between critical thinking skills and students' English writing ability.In conclusion,it is feasible to conduct critical thinking skills training of English writing teaching in senior high school.It is hoped that increasingly more teachers will pay attention to students' critical thinking skills training in teaching of English writing,so as to improve students' English writing ability.
