The annual reports of the listed companies include comprehensive interpretations of the operating conditions and future development trends of the companies, which aim to attract more investors' attention and provide decision support for their investment.Judging from the long-term potential of China's economic growth,China is gradually becoming an ideal place for global corporates to invest and grow.Against this background, the annual reports of the listed companies have a wider reading group. In this regard, the translation of the annual reports is of great importance. However, how to improve the quality of the translation of the annual reports so as to attract more investors by referring to the experience of American companies' annual reports is an issue worthy of serious consideration by company leadership.Critical Genre Analysis(CGA)is a discourse analytical method developed on the basis of genre analysis, which aims to explain how a specific discourse group constructs its professional discourse to achieve the common communicative purposes. In consideration of the above economic reality, this thesis aims to explore the following three issues.Firstly, what are the differences in the application of genre resources between Chinese and American annual reports of listed companies? Secondly, why should we use CGA to guide the translation of the annual reports? Thirdly, how to use CGA to provide guidance for the translation of the annual reports of listed companies in China? In order to achieve the above research objectives, this thesis analyzes the annual reports of four Chinese companies listed on the main board of both China and the United States by utilizing the analytical framework built up on the basis of Bhatia?s(2017)levels of discourse realization, and thereby explores how to better meet the reading and cognitive conventions of target readers through transformation in translation. Finally, with an aim to further promote the translation of the annual reports of the Chinese companies, the author translates parts of the annual reports of listed companies without original translation by applying the translation model proposed in this thesis.Through research, the present thesis has achieved the following findings: Firstly, due to the unique national conditions and the different levels of economic development, the discourses of annual reports of listed companies in China and the United States are different, which is reflected in the different uses of genre resources in five dimensions, namely, discourse, professional genre, professional practice, professional culture, and social culture.Secondly,CGA attaches great importance to the professional practices of a particular industry and takes the internal and external resources of the discourse into an overall account in the process of analysis. As a multi-dimensional and multi-perspective research method,it can provide detailed guidance for the translation of annual reports of listed companies. Finally, the translation of annual reports of listed companies is not a simple conversion between two languages, but cross-cultural communication in listed companies? information disclosure practices.Translators, through transformation, can better meet the needs of target readers by reducing the information errors caused by the practice differences.
