Zilch Intellectuals In Zhang Tianyi's Satirical View

Intellectual theme has always played an important role in the history of Chinese modern literature.As a satirical novelist,Zhang Tianyi often has intellectual images,especially zilch intellectuals,in his works.Despite being a left-wing writer,Tianyi has a unique satiric insight of different types of intellectuals in his works,rarely come out as positive images.In this article,by analyzing mental dilemmas of intellectuals and re-evaluating the time of Tanyi's works,we hope to conclude his reflection of the May 4th Movement and deep thoughts of social situation.In this article,the zilch intellectuals in Tianyi's works are divided into three distinct types: vacuous Petty Bourgeoisie youths,dastard grotesques,and hypocritical servants.Then the mental dilemmas those intellectuals are in are deeply investigated.It is also discussed that Tianyi's post May-4th Movement deep thinking of intellectuals coming back to normal life after retreating the superficial enthusiasm of the revolution.This includes his thorough observation of humanity,reflection on the New Culture Movement and deep thinking of social situation.By analyzing these mental dilemmas,Tianyi went beyond most left-wing writers in his time for his more diversified characters and deeper thinking.The fact that many of his characters are still known today demonstrates that his works transcend the age.
