| With the greater importance President Xi attaches to people’s livelihood and ideological work,it is essential for media workers to stick to the right orientation in reporting news.Housing price in China concerns people’s fundamental interests,which belongs to people’s livelihood issue.Relevant authorities and departments take effective measures to curb the rising housing price,aiming to maintain the sound and sustainable development of the real estate market.Chinese government has the firm determination to control the rising housing price,because it relates to people’s interest and sustainable economic development.This study selects 30 pieces of news reports on rising housing price control since the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in China Daily.From the perspective of Critical Discourse Analysis,this dissertation aims to answer the following questions:(1)What linguistic resources are used in the news reports on house price control to convey Chinese people’s livelihood thought of Chinese government?(2)How is Chinese people’s livelihood thought encoded in the linguistic features?(3)Why is Chinese people’s livelihood thought encoded in the news of house price control?Based on Fairclough’s Three-dimensional Model and Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar,the thesis selects 30 pieces of news reports on rising housing price control to carry out a qualitative and quantitative study at the stage of description,interpretation and explanation.At the level of text,transitivity is adopted to analyze linguistic features.At the level of discursive practice,news sources and modes of discourse representation are explored.And at the level of social practice,social and cultural contexts are taken into account to explain the ideologies encoded in news discourse.Through the analysis of material process,verbal process and relational process,it is found that the linguistic resources China Daily has adopted in news reports on rising housing price control reflect President Xi’s people’s livelihood,that is,Chinese government actively and effectively curb the rising housing price and put people’s interests into the central position.A great number of specific sources from authorities in China Daily demonstrate the objectivity and authority of news on one hand,and reflect the unbalance in the use of sources which is not beneficial to construct people’s livelihood thought on the other hand.In the aspect of reporting modes,indirect discourse is mainly used in China Daily to transform official views into accepted mass language and to transfer readers’ focus from the sources to real actions Chinese government has taken to regulate the real estate market.The reporting of actions reflects that Chinese government is devoted to solve the most pressing problem for people and concerns most about people’s interest.Finally,the author explains the reason from the aspects of President Xi’s view on media,Chinese news system and economic factors. |
