A Report On The Translation Of Banquets Of The Black Widowers (Excerpts)

In this translation practice project,two stories of Banquet of the Black Banquet are selected,where the translator has encountered many cultural-specific items which create considerable difficulty in translating.According to Spanish translator Javier Franco Aixelá's strategies of translating culture-specific items(CSIs)and Nida's classification of culture-specific items,this report categorizes the classification and strategies used by the author when translating the source text.For three kinds of CSIs in social,ecological and linguistic level,the translator uses strategies including repetition,transliteration,extratextual gloss,intratextual gloss,naturalization,deletion,attenuation and so on.By analyzing the specific application characteristics of various strategies,it is hoped that this paper can help the translation of culture-specific items in mystery novels.However,the application of these strategies is quite flexible.It is necessary for translator to determine how to translate source text according to different cases.
