Gender Differences In Interruption Speech Act

Interruption is a natural language phenomenon in speech acts.In recent years,this phenomenon has become a hot topic among linguists.However,previous studies mainly explore the general rules of natural speech interruption,and few scholars have studied the phenomenon of fixed discourse field for the interruption.Therefore,the specific discourse field of TV talk shows is taken as the research object,focusing on the analysis of gender differences in interruption between hosts and hostesses in the talk shows.The research sample is selected from six foreign talk shows,and there are 224 interruption passages collected from 12 episodes.Based on these corpuses,quantitative analysis is made by Chi-square and probability statistics,and whether there exist gender differences in interruption pattern,purposes and effects between hosts and hostesses in the talk shows is discussed.The following conclusions are drawn.On interruption patterns,there are significant gender differences between hosts and hostesses.Hosts tend to interrupt guests in a simple pattern,while hostesses tend to interrupt guests with simple comments or supportive words.On interruption purposes,there are also significant gender differences between hosts and hostesses.The purpose of interruption by hosts aims to control the program time,while the hostesses are inclined to help guests explain.On interruption effects,there are significant gender differences in the successful interruption,and the rate of successful interruption by hosts is higher than hostesses.For the unsuccessful interruption,there is no significant gender difference.After analyzing the interruption gender differences between hosts and hostesses in talk shows,the causes are discussed of these gender differences.Meanwhile,due to the influence of social development and the enhancement of gender equality consciousness,the gender differences are gradually narrowing.Figure 0;Table 28;Reference 56...
