| The schema theory guides this thesis with the consecutive interpreting of meeting between officials of Hunan province and the Hungarian parliament as the case study. It analyzes the interpretation process features, then combines with case materials to illustrate the vital role of the schema in the interpretation activity. This paper points out that interpreters should pay attention to schemata accumulation, expand knowledge, focus on strengthening, expanding and activating related schemata to improve the performance of interpretation, thus confirming the feasibility and practical guiding significance of the schema theory applied to interpretation research,in order to realize the critical role of the schema theory in interpretation. In recent years, the research of cognitive models in cognitive linguistics and psycholinguistics has gradually been applied to the study of interpretation. The schema theory is one of its essential achievements. The schema is the existing knowledge structure in mind, which comes from previously obtained knowledge and experience.Schema can be classified into four types: linguistic schema, content schema, formal schema and cultural schema. The paper includes three chapters. The first part is the research introduction, mainly introduces the research background, research significance and the outline of this thesis. The first chapter is the literature review. It summarizes the researches of Chinese and foreign scholars in the application of the schema theory in interpretation, which provides a theoretical basis for this research. The second chapterintroduces the development of schema theory and its classification and characteristics. The schema is the foundation for people to know the world. When people process new information, they activate the schema in the brain to promote the connection between the old information and the new information. The schema is generally divided into four types: content schema, linguistic schema, formal schema, and cultural schema. These four schemata play an important role in the interpretation, and help to improve the efficiency of interpretation. At the same time, the "bottom-up" and "top-down" information processing models have a positive effect on information processing. They promote the processing of new information and combine the old information with the new information. The third chapter uses the cases to analyze the vital role of the schema theory in different stages of interpretation: listening comprehension, memorization and expression, and gives valuable interpreting strategies to help interpreters to eliminate ambiguity in interpretation activities, anticipate content, enhance memory, save time, reduce their pressure and address communication barriers caused by cultural differences. The last part is the conclusion. The author hopes this paper can guide the interpreter to use the schema theory to effectively and excellently complete the interpretation task. |
