Dewey is recognized as a pragmatist philosopher,educator,aesthetician and thinker in the 20 th century.The dissemination of Dewey's thinking in China has a history of over a hundred years.At present,the dissemination of Dewey's educational thinking and pragmatism philosophy in China has been systematically studied and discussed by scholars.The dissemination of Dewey's empiricism aesthetics in China has been neglected by the academic circles.Therefore,through the methods of literature research,textual close reading and historical research,this paper deeply analyses the research path of Dewey's empiricism aesthetics in China.In addition to the conclusion and introduction,this paper can be divided into five chapters.In the first chapter,the philosophical basis,core concepts and main aesthetic thoughts of Dewey's empiricism aesthetics are summarized as a whole.Chapter two discusses in detail the reasons why Dewey's empiricism aesthetics spreads in China.With the reform and opening up as the boundary,the author divides it into two stages.Before the reform and opening up,"Dewey fever" contradicted Dewey's own forward-looking aesthetics,which made the dissemination of Dewey's aesthetics in China in a dilemma.After the reform and opening up,due tothe influence of Western aesthetics,the development needs of Chinese aesthetics,the overall prosperity of Dewey's translation and introduction,and the similarity between Dewey's aesthetics and traditional Confucian aesthetics,Dewey's aesthetics spreads again in China.Chapter three analyses in detail the dissemination process of Dewey's aesthetics in China.From a diachronic point of view,the author divides it into three periods: the period of the Republic of China,the period of the "seventeen years" of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the period after the reform and opening up,and elaborates on the main media and communication characteristics in each period.Chapter IV summarizes,collates and analyses the research literature on Dewey since 1990 s,and divides its research field into two categories:literature and art and comparative aesthetics.The fifth chapter focuses on the two major problems in the process of "Sinicization" of Dewey's aesthetics,and the influence of Dewey's empiricism aesthetics on Tao Xingzhi's aesthetic education thought and Chinese literary theory in the 21 st century.
