Modulation Of Contemporary American Romantic Comedy's Male Discourse

Romantic comedy is a very important branch of American comedy.As a classic film genre,it not only brings people entertainment,but also regarded as a window of reflection of social,family,and gender relations.This type of cultural representation is closely related to society and culture interacting with its romantic narration and discourse.Romantic comedy continues to experience the expansion,evolution and development of its boundaries.It is an issue,which is worthy of in-depth study,that how it achieves the self-renewal and revision to maintain vitality,and how to carry out romantic reproduction in contemporary when the human romantic relationship is more complex and diversified.Since the new century,some romantic comedy films made from the male perspective,such as Arrested Development Comedy,have developed more mature characteristics and narrative mode,and are gradually familiar to the audience.The development of Arrested Development Comedy also presents different story formula,and forms a sharp contrast with other male perspective of romantic comedy.The romantic comedy films made from the male perspective have a new supplement to the narrative style.It is worthy of noticing that these films are closely related to the construction of gender identity.It also reflects the trend of style innovation on contemporary Hollywood romantic comedy in the context of the times.It is the key points of the study to figure out the continuity of genre,the self-revision and innovation as well as its internal contradictions and evolution.This article finds out a specific starting point,which is taking the case of genre innovation of romantic comedy to provide some perspectives of investigating for this topic.At present,the domestic research on American romantic comedy is hysteretic,which has not yet formed a system.Thus,it can fill the gap of domestic research on this topic through the study.At the same time,the exploration of the evolution of the mature narrative style also brings important references and enlightenments to the development of the corresponding genre of film in China.Besides,it also has certain practical significance for enriching the narrative art of Chinese comedy film.Focusing on the contemporary Hollywood male perspective romantic comedy text,this dissertation subdivides the development of Arrested Development Comedy according to different story formulas,and compares it with the Alpha male perspective romantic comedy.It also unifies them in the category of "male discourse".This paper aims to research exactly how these films have been modified in the paradigmatic mode of romantic comedy and how the comic is produced.In addition,through discussing the male perspective and the male discourse,this dissertation will analyze the underlying social,gender and cultural reasons.Based on the narrative study of genre film,the dissertation analyzes the relevant sub-genre of films from the perspective of the history of genre development and case analysis through macro development of genres,specific narration and comedy mechanism giving theoretical attention and elaboration to the relevant sub-genre of films.It is supplemented by gender studies and cultural studies to untangle and explore the male discourse of contemporary American romantic comedy.The dissertation firstly untangles the contemporary development of the history of this genre through the main perspective of the turn of gender discourse within 20 years.The main body of the dissertation is to show the narrative mode of romantic comedy from the male perspective,which describes in details about the characteristics of this genre from the aspects of characters and plot patterns.Then,it explores whether the male discourse in contemporary American romantic comedy has been changed or modified by extending to the cultural and social factors.
