Research On The Genre Of Male-Oriented Online Xianxia Novels

Since its inception in the 1990s,network.literature has attracted attention from all walks of life in China.At that time,as an emerging technology,the Internet only provided a platform for literary creation and publication.With the development of economy and society,network literature has adapted to digitalization and informationization.It has continuously extended into various categories and become its main presentation method.As one of the most enduring types of network literature,network fantasy novels rely on emerging media and draw on rich traditional cultural resources while inheriting the writing tradition of martial arts novels.Based on this foundation,they have been modernized by expressing them in contemporary language that reflects current events and young people’s experiences.This genre has attracted a lot of attention from readers of network literature.This modern expression is mainly based on three points:first,the unique creative platform provided by the network in the era of new media;second,the constantly updated hot current events and network language;third,the life experience and imagination of the new generation of young people.This article takes male network fantasy novels as the research object,and from the perspective of type research,places male network fantasy novels mainly aimed at male readers in the overall view of Chinese literary history,and strives to present more clearly its development context,creative themes and the cultural characteristics of the times reflected behind it find out its shortcomings in creation and put forward suggestions for the future development of male network fantasy novels.Firstly,based on the definition of male network fantasy novels,I traced back to the traditional concepts inherited by network fantasy novels from a historical perspective.I explored the origin of the concepts of "immortals" and "chivalry",when and where they originated,whether their meanings changed in different dynasties,and how understanding their social background and cultural psychology can help us further analyze what traits male network fantasy novels have inherited and innovated in their development from a comparative perspective.As relatively independent concepts,the integration of "immortals" and "chivalry" reflects a tangled separation and unity trend.This trend not only reflects a reasonable discussion on the existence of this type of male network fantasy novels but also reflects the integration attempts made by online writers as their writing skills mature.Secondly,from a synchronic perspective,I horizontally compared the development of m ale network fantasy novels over the past twenty years by selecting twenty-three rep resentative works and analyzing their functional elements,narrative themes,and text structures to clarify their basic creative paradigms and further demonstrate th e development process of male network fantasy novels and explore their commonalities and individualities in their creation:In terms of creative form,it always adheres to direct reference or transformation of traditional cultural elements and attempts to weave a self-contained world of immortals and chivalry from a contemporary perspective based on ancient mythological imagination;In terms of creative themes,it focuses on growth,rebellion,and guardianship,reflecting the complex social and cultural psychological factors behind the widespread attention to network fantasy novels;In terms of creative structure,it attempts to output personal values through exploration of immortal-mortal and positive-negative relationships under the traditional binary op position creative mode.From the perspectives of text,author,reader,and society,there are two major shortcomings in male network fantasy novels over the past 20 years.Firstly,there are problems with utilitarian writing and conveying incorrect gender views.The promotion of pleasure and objectification of women has always existed in male network fantasy novel creation.Secondly,there is a lack of creativity in writing.In the current era where many routines are no longer popular,how to seek newness and change is a problem that male network fantasy novel authors need to consider.Based on a clear understanding of its current development dilemma,as readers and researchers,we suggest that male network fantasy novels take a key step out of their birthplace by turning inward and more deeply exploring traditional cultural resources to deeply move people while maintaining their advantages in decompression and fully leveraging their inclusiveness by constantly integrating contemporary elements for innovative expression.
