A Post-Translation Report In The Case Of Shan Zhong You Li Ri

The present report is a reflection on the translation of Shan Zhong You Li Ri,a Chinese novel written by Wang Meng.With a depiction of the event that occurred among main characters,Wang Meng aims to show readers the great changes of mountainous areas,the significant improvements in the living texture of rural people and the obvious differences of the trans-generational attitudes towards life.As a literary text set in the 1980 s and the 1990 s,the novel contains a range of words and sentences which are hard to understand as well as abstract expressions and descriptions which require deliberate treatment.When it comes to the process of translation,reproducing in the target text the register of the source text poses a major challenge to the translator,thus being the focus of the present report.Therefore,the translator has to try hard to figure out how to render these words and expressions properly with the theory of register as a guide of translation so as to reproduce in the target text the register that corresponds to that of the source text.The report is mainly divided into three parts.Part One gives a description of the translation task,including an introduction to the author and the source text,the reason for the translator's selection of this text and the language features of the source text.Part Two deals with process description,pre-translation preparation and post-translation management.Part Three focuses on case analysis,illustrating what theory the translator uses to guide her through the translation task and how the translator attempts to solve the problems she has encountered during the process of translating.Through translating the text and writing the report,the translator intends to,on the one hand,raise translators' awareness of the question of “reproducing the register in target texts” since it is easily neglected during the translating process and,on the other hand,to provide a possible and feasible solution to the problem of “how toreproduce the register” for other translators in order to realize register-based correspondence.
