The Rule of Law Annual Report 2016 of the United Nations Development Programme,from which the author took her source text for translation,was published on June 8,2017 by the United Nations Development Programme.The UNDP Report provides an overview of the situations of human rights and the rule of law in over 40crisis-affected countries in 2016 and how the support of UNDP and its country partners contributes to sustaining peace.As a text of international organizations,the Report is highly authoritative,characterized by a standardized writing style and professional UN terminology;the Report is reasonably constructed by a compact syntactic structure,featured by long sentences and verb phrases.The UNDP Report aims to achieve complete delivery of information in a concise and detailed way.The author chose it as the source text to discuss the linguistic characteristics of UN documents and problems in their translation.Meanwhile,she introduces several translation techniques in an attempt to make precise and smooth translation.This Translation Report gives a brief introduction to the background of the rule of law around the world,significance of the task,and nature and features of the source text.The part of task description presents pre-translation preparations,schedule of the task,and post-translation works,etc.In case study,under the guidance of Text Typology by Katharina Reiss,the author analyzes problems she encountered and corresponding principles she took in translation process.Furthermore,the Report discusses findings,limitations,suggestions and implications of the task that may be conducive to the future studies of UN translation.
