In this global information age,media coverage has exerted increasingly greater influence on international environment.This is especially true with the mainstream media with international influence,whose coverage can inform the public of the important events,shape their opinion and sometimes even affect the behavioral patterns of international players such as governments and international organizations.Therefore,it is vital to monitor international media coverage,which is also known as international public sentiment monitoring.Translation plays an important role,which can be seen from the self-introduction of BBC Monitoring,“we are a specialist service within BBC news that enables organizations to understand the world through its media.Our highly experienced regional teams track,translate and analyze local sources to make sense of what is happening on the ground…”The practice of translation exceeds its theory,thus requiring an ongoing empirical attitude(Pym 2009:96).This report is based on the translation practice of foreign media coverage of China-Africa relations.The author tracks reports on China-Africa relations covered in foreign media,especially those with global influence.Next,the author focuses on the main translation strategies of trans-editing,addition,deletion and translation and narration adopted in the practice and conducts some case study.
