Instantaneity Or Duration

Impressionism is one of the most important style categories in western art history.Most of its pictures show an " instantaneous" performance effect,that is,the painter's faithful depiction of the visual impression at a certain moment.When an article involves the picture analysis of impressionist works,it is impossible to avoid the influence of this " Timeliness" on the works.It is precisely this characteristic that makes Impressionism so unique.Monet is one of the representative painters of impressionist style,and the visual features and aesthetic meaning in his works are worth exploring.This research takes Monet's painting series Rouen Cathedral as the main research object,elaborates and differentiates the definition of " Timeliness" in the works,the expression way and its influence on the picture and even the painter,and on this basis puts forward personal opinions on Monet's artistic style development.The first part of the article mainly introduces Monet's composition process and his main works.Monet's composition stage is an important creation period for painters.On the basis of traditional impressionist style painting,Monet began to create the same scene from multiple or single angles for many times.This kind of creation is the key to our understanding of the painter's creation psychology.The second part,starting from the " Materiality" of the works,mainly discusses the materiality features of the picture itself and the theme in the picture,and further compares this feature with previous works.On this basis,it discusses the influence of " Materiality" on the picture as a manifestation of " Timeliness".The third part respectively discusses the characteristics of "Timeliness" contained in several creation stages related to the church series,and comprehensively discusses the concept of " Continuity" embodied in the church series.To sum up,the author,by comparing the differences between the church series and other works,grasps the core internal creative logic of each link in the creation of the church series,and makes a multi-angle exploration of Monet's church series under the category of stylistics,and further believes that the creation purpose of the church series is different from that of the haystack series,poplar series and even any previous works.As one of Monet's later paintings,it indicates that the painter is no longer keen on the fleeting effect of light in the picture and no longer works strictly according to impressionist painting principles.In other words," Rouen Cathedral" is a very unique work among Monet's many paintings,which show the different painting intentions of the painter from the previous works.Monet hopes to obtain a higher status and honor than before as the " Father of Impressionism" through this group of works of " Rouen Cathedral".At the same time,Monet also conveys his new painting pursuit to the outside world: to construct a spatial image that is free from time constraints and canvas restrictions.
