With the rapid development of educational ecology,educators at home and abroad have paid more and more attention to the sustainable development of English courses.In the absence of a specific language environment,reading is the most important source of knowledge input.Most higher vocational college students with relatively poor English performance do not have English reading habits,and their autonomous learning ability is relatively poor.How to make higher vocational college students develop good reading habits,improve their autonomous learning ability,and promote the sustainable development of English courses is a long-term problem that English teachers have been confronted with.This study aims to construct an ecological environment of extra-curricular English reading,so that the students can take the initiative to read after class,thus deriving pleasure from reading.The ultimate goal is to promote students to learn English sustainably and to improve students reading proficiency.Based on Law of Limiting Factors,Flowerpot Effect,Law of Niche and Co-evolutionary Theory,this study aims to explore two questions: 1)How does the construction of ecological environment influence students' extracurricular English reading? 2)ow does the construction of ecological environment influence students' English reading ability?The experiment lasted for 10 weeks and the subjects were students from a class randomly selected from a higher vocational college.Before the experiment,most of the students had never read English after class.In the experiment,students were provided with many different levels of reading resources and encouraged to read.The teacher eliminated the "limiting factors" in the English reading environment,guided students to develop reading plans and write reading reports,carried out a variety of activities,and smashed the impact of niche chaos and flowerpot effect.Through questionnaires,interviews and reading proficiency tests before and after the experiment,the study sorted and analyzed the data with SPSS Software.The major findings are as follows: After constructing the ecological English reading environment,the students have developed a correct attitude toward reading and cultivated English reading habit,the teacher and students have been interacting frequently,and the students' reading ability has been significantly improved.The changes in reading habits and the interaction between the teacher and students were more obvious.Therefore,the construction of the ecological environment has achieved good results.This study drew the following teaching enlightenment: Firstly,the construction of ecological English extra-curricular reading environment should be guided by overall harmony;Secondly,the construction of English extra-curricular reading environment should respect theindividual diversity of students;Thirdly,the construction of English ecological extra-curricular reading environment should be based on open Generation;Finally,constructing English ecological extra-curricular reading environment should consider sustainable development as the ultimate goal.However,there were some shortcomings in this study,such as: The results might be affected by the short period of time and the small sample size and some other factors.It's necessary to extend research time and expand research scope in the future...
