Before the Tang Dynasty,Taoism was formally formed and developed in China.Its doctrines,rites and precepts were all mature in this period,and its literature also achieved fruitful results.The praise was one of them.In Taoism,the praise is also known as xuanzhang,zanyong,songyong,its function is to eulogize the gods and fairies,celestial realm and other objects as the main content of verse.Its works contain rich religious ideas,and has a certain literary characteristics.There were few people in the domestic academic circle study it at present,so this paper intends to make an overall exploration on the praise of Taoism before the Tang Dynasty.The content of the article is mainly composed of the following three parts: First,combing and classifying these works.In the Ming Dynasty,a special praise category had been set up when editing Taoist Sutra,and about 90 texts were written before the Tang Dynasty.However,there are still a large number of works scattered in Taoist Sutra,including nearly 300 texts which produced before the Tang Dynasty.All of the above texts can be roughly divided into four categories according to the object of praise.Second,analyzing the religious thoughts in the works.There are three important religious thoughts in praises:first,achieving immortality;second,living in the End Times;third,rescuing the ghosts in hell.Third,discussing the literary achievements of the works.This part has three main points: first,from the image of the works,creative methods,literary style analyzing its literary characteristics;Second,from the format system and music level analyzing its artistic tendency;Third,discussing the significance of the Taoist praise to the eulogizing literature from the perspective of religious sacredness and text's attachment to ritual.
