Cooperative learning mode is one of the effective teaching and learning methods which is advocated in education.Cooperative learning emerged in the United States in the early 1970 s.And it is a creative and effective teaching theory and strategy which made substantial progress in the mid-1970 s to the mid-1980 s.With the deepening of the new round of basic education curriculum reform(New curriculum reform)and the requirements of compulsory education English curriculum standards,in the stage of compulsory education,the new curriculum puts more emphasis on developing students' basic listening,speaking,reading and writing skills and abilities,to form initially the ability to communicate with others in English,to develop students' awareness and ability of cross-cultural communication and to cultivate and develop students' sense of cooperation and innovative thinking ability.In English teaching,the author finds that group cooperative learning has an influence on students' interest in English learning.And there are many problems of group cooperative learning in English classroom in junior high school,such as,students lacking the awareness and abilities of group cooperative learning,students' diverse learning ways,unreasonable grouping of cooperative learning,unclear cooperative learning assignments,unreasonable classroom teaching design of teachers,single classroom evaluation method and other teaching phenomena.And in the actual English teaching,students' interest in English learning and the above existing problems of group cooperative learning in junior high school which are not paid much attention by English teachers.However,according to the requirements of the new English curriculum standards,the author finds that the requirements for arousing and improving students' interest in English learning and group cooperative learning are getting higher and higher.Therefore,it is necessary to research and analyze the application of group cooperative learning,study and analyze the existing problems and explore corresponding countermeasures of group cooperative learning in English classroom in junior high school.Therefore,on the basis of previous studies,the thesis attempts to analyze whether group cooperative learning can arouse and improve students' interest in English learning or not.And also the author attempts to analyze the existing problems of group cooperative learning in English classroom in junior high schools and explore the countermeasures to solve the existing problems.In this thesis,the author raises the following research questions:(1)Can group cooperative learning arouse and improve students' interest in English learning?(2)What are the existing problems of group cooperative learning in English classroom in junior high school?(3)What strategies can solve effectively the existing problems of group cooperative learning?In the process of studying above research questions,the author mainly adopted the methods of literature review,questionnaire survey and interview.By consulting the literature,the author finds that most of the current studies on cooperative learning are theoretical discussions,and these studies on cooperative learning mainly focuses on the group cooperative learning in high school teaching and university teaching.And there are few studies on group cooperative learning in English classroom in junior high school.In this paper,three hundred and fifty students and twenty teachers of Sansui Wazhai Middle School were surveyed and ten English teachers were interviewed about group cooperative learning.In the questionnaire and interview survey,the survey content mainly includes the situation of group grouping,students' sense of group cooperation learning,learning contents selection,classroom evaluation and so on.Through the data analysis of questionnaire and interview results,there are some countermeasures to the existing problems of group cooperative learning in English classroom as following conclusions: Group cooperative learning can arouse and improve students' interest in English learning.To solve the existing problems of group cooperative learning in English classroom in junior middle school,the following measures can be taken: To establish a reasonable cooperative learning groups;To design reasonable teaching contents;To design clear division of group assignments;To implement feasible and diversified evaluation methods.The study can help teachers to have a more comprehensive understanding of how to use group cooperative learning effectively,to help teacher to make better use of the effectiveness of classroom cooperative learning and to improve students' learning quality and comprehensive abilities and skills.And it may provide a theoretical reference for the future implementation of cooperative learning in the English teaching process.
