In the field of second language acquisition,motivation has been proved by many researchers to be a key individual factor in one' s second language learning.At the same time,due to the indivisibility of language and culture,learners' identity level of target culture also has significant influence on their learning of target language.Under the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative,economic and trade exchanges between China and the world are increasing.There are more and more Southeast Asian students coming to China to learn Chinese.The motivation of the students to study in China and their Chinese cultural identity will undoubtedly have significant impact on their Chinese language learning.By using “cultural identity,language motivation” as key words to retrieve CNKI date base,the author got 11 related papers,then for precise range,the author used“foreign students' cultural identity,Chinese language motivation” as key words to retrieve CNKI,and found that there are five articles relate to the correlation of cultural identity and Chinese learning motivation of foreign students,among which only one involved with Southeast Asian students.Therefore,this study is an attempt on this aspect.This study takes Thai,Indonesian,and Vietnamese international students as study subjects.Through questionnaire to collect data,it tries to answer the following specific questions:1.What's the situation of subjects' Chinese learning motivation? whether their gender,duration in China,Chinese level and whether ethnic Chinese has impact on their motivation of learning Chinese?2.What's the situation of subjects' Chinese cultural identity? whether their gender,duration in China,Chinese level and whether ethnic Chinese has impact on their Chinese cultural identity?3.Whether there is correlation between subjects' Chinese cultural identity and Chinese language motivation? If there is,what's the specific relationship?By conducting SPSS analysis of the collected 135 efficient questionnaires,it is found that:(1)The subjects' identity of Chinese value and mainstream culture is rather higher than their identity of Chinese language and ethnic group;In terms of language motivation,their instrumental motivation is stronger than integrative motivation.(2)Along with their improvement of Chinese proficiency level,the research subjects' Chinese cultural identity has improved in different levels,except for the identity of value,whose change is rather slow;Males' ethnic identity degree is higher than the females';both instrumental motivation and integrative motivation of the females' is lower than that of the males;whether ethnic Chinese or not has no significant influence on their Chinese cultural identity and language learning motivation.(3)The learners' cultural identity has significant correlation with integrative motivation,especially the ethnic group identity,which has the highest positive relation with integrative motivation,indicating that,the higher a student's cultural identity,especially the ethnic group identity,the stronger his integrative language motivation.Based on the above research conclusions,the author proposed some methods to strengthen Southeast Asian students' language motivation and Chinese cultural identity:(1)Emphasize the importance of being economic independence,so as to strengthen female students' instrumental motivation;(2)Make full use of the multi-media instruments,which can make language class live and interesting to increase students' contacts with Chinese culture,and decrease their psychological distance to Chinese culture;(3)Organize activities which can bring Southeast Asian students and Chinese students together,let them make friends and help each other,so as to improve their knowing of Chinese people;(4)Set proper teaching target to satisfy learner's short-term object,which can strengthen their instrumental motivation.The implementation of these methods can help learners sustain their language motivation,thus promoting their Chinese language level as well as their identity of Chinese culture.
