Herbert Marcuse's Artistic Liberation Thought Research

Herbert Marcuse is one of the representatives of the first generation of the Frankfurt School.With his deep insight,He pointed out the social and cultural crisis faced by contemporary capitalist society.He believes that contemporary capitalist society is a new type of totalitarian society,a society in which the material is extremely developed and the human spirit is still painful.In order to liberate mankind from this state of repression and unhappiness,Marcuse conducted a lifelong exploration,and successively proposed the theory of Eros liberation,new sensation theory and artistic liberation theory.The main introduction of this paper is Marcuse's artistic liberation thought,and the thesis is divided into three parts.The first part introduces the motivation of artistic emancipation thought and Marcuse's theoretical exploration before the theory of artistic emancipation.Firstly,the motivation of artistic emancipation thought is the predicament of human survival.Marcuse believes that today's society is a one-dimensional society.While living in this society,Human beings are not free and fortunate.Both the spirit and the body are enslaved and feel very painful.This is the survival dilemma faced by mankind.Secondly,this part also introduces Marcuse's theoretical exploration before the theory of artistic emancipation,and introduces the theory of Eros liberation and the new sensation theory.The theory of Eros liberation is the redemption scheme proposed by Marcuse on the psychological path.The new sensation theory pinpoints the realization of liberation in the field of cultural consciousness,which is the new liberation path proposed by Marcuse after denying the theory of Eros liberation.The second part introduces the theoretical construction of the artistic liberation theory,and it is the core part of the thesis.Here we first introduce the importance of art form and artistic traits.It is precisely because of the form and characteristics ofart that art has the function of liberation.In addition,this part also introduces how art achieves liberation.It also introduces that the power of artistic liberation is in art form,art shapes new technology,art shapes new sensation and how to construct new society.The third part introduces the value and limitations of Marcuse's artistic emancipation thought.Although Marcuse's aesthetic thought is full of utopian colors,his spirit of unremitting exploration is still worth learning.Although art can't change the unfortunate situation of people,Marcuse at least let us know that art can enrich people's spiritual world and increase people's emotional experience.
