Grammar plays an essential role in Second Language Acquisition.As far as learning English is concerned,a good command of grammar is a key to raising learner English proficiency.Therefore,grammar teaching is of great significance in English learning.However,the teaching effect of English grammar is not so satisfactory for a long time and most students do not have much interest in it.This thesis tries to make a tentative study of applying Situational Teaching Method in grammar teaching in the hope that it will help shed some light in promoting the teaching and learning efficiency of English grammar.This study tries to answer two research questions: 1)How is Situational Teaching Method used in the English grammar teaching in junior high school? 2)What effect does it have on the English grammar teaching in junior high school? The study takes the junior high school of Xi'an Foreign Language School as an example,by choosing 141 students and 5 English teachers as participants.It adopts three research methods: class observation,questionnaire and interview.The design of the class observation scale,the questionnaire and interview questions is all based on Situational Language Teaching Theory.A pilot study was made of the questionnaires and the reliability and validity were tested by SPSS20.0.For more useful and authentic information,the author also interviewed five English teachers.Through the analyses and discussion of the data,the author draws the following conclusions: First of all,the English teachers at this school teach grammar by using Situational Teaching Method.Most English teachers teach grammar by creating different real life situations.Secondly,Situational Teaching Method has positiveeffects on English grammar teaching in junior high school.Situational Teaching Method can improve students' interest in learning grammar;it can help them better understand and use grammar;it can also improve their communicative and cooperative abilities;lastly,it can contribute to the development of the learners' imagination and creation.Based on this research findings,the author suggests that teachers should know more about Situational Language Teaching Theory and try to make an effective use of it in grammar teaching so as to maximize the their teaching effect.
