With the development of economic globalization,the relations between the countries of the world are increasingly close.As an international language,English has become an important tool for international communication,and scholars pay more attention to English language teaching.As the basis of language skill,listening is the foundation for the development of other language skills,and an important link for language communication,so it plays an important role in learning and life.What's more,English listening was added to the examination scope of English college entrance examination,so students gradually realize the importance of listening comprehension.However,due to the influence of traditional English listening teaching methods,listening teaching is still in the relatively backward state in the application of new teaching method,and students have many problems in English listening.The purpose of this study is to investigate English listening comprehension barriers of students in senior high schools,and propose the countermeasures of listening barriers.In the study,the research participants are 7 English teachers and 132 senior grade one students from three parallel classes in a school in Jinan.Questionnaires and interviews expound English listening comprehension barriers of students in senior high schools.Investigation shows that students in senior high schools generally have barriers in listening comprehension.First of all,students have barriers in listening knowledge storage,involving phonetics,vocabulary,grammar and background knowledge.Secondly,there are barriers of listening emotion regulation,including learning emotion and cognitive drive.Thirdly,students have barriers in using listening knowledge such as memory strategies,cognitive strategies,compensation strategies,metacognitive strategies,affective strategies and social strategies.Fourthly,they have barriers in selecting listening materials.Fifthly,they have barriers in memory.Finally,they have barriers in mother tongue thinking.In order to eliminate the listening comprehension barriers of students in senior high schools,this paper puts forward some listening countermeasures.Firstly,students should constantly enhance the listening knowledge reserve,strengthen knowledge learning of the pronunciation,vocabulary,grammar and background.What's more,students should strengthen the ability of listening emotional regulation,maintain a good learning attitude,and enhance the cognitive drive.Besides,students should master effective listening strategies,for example,students should reinforce memory by using memory strategies,speculate listening content by using compensation strategies and strengthen communication by using social strategies in listening.In addition,teachers should choose suitable listening materials for students.Furthermore,students should strengthen memory.Finally,students in senior high schools should change listening thinking.Several countermeasures will help students to overcome the listening comprehension obstacles,improve English listening level and provide guidance for English listening teaching.In the end,the author puts forward the main findings,limitations and suggestion of this research.
