With the continuous enhancement of English reading significance,English reading barriers are paid more and more attention in domestic education field.A batch of experts and scholars at home devote themselves to study and analyze on English reading barriers.Hence,domestic academic world have gained certain achievements on English reading barriers.However,for English reading barriers in high school,there are fewer scholars who have done professional research on it,especially barriers from single aspect,such as vocabulary barrier,there are seldom scholars to do professional research.Hence,this research can help to remedy vacancy of researches on vocabulary barriers in high school English reading.This research focuses on investigating students' vocabulary barriers in English reading in senior grade one.The research uses the investigation method,and aims at exploring the following questions: first of all,what are the manifestations of vocabulary barriers in English reading? Secondly,what are the reasons for causing these vocabulary barriers in English reading?In order to answer the above questions,this research adopts documentary method,questionnaire survey and interview method,and an investigation is carried out on 120 students from class 5 and class 7 of grade 1 in No.1 Senior High School in Wuyuan county,Bayannaoer.Through questionnaire survey in students,this research finds that the main vocabulary barriers in students' English reading are reflected in the following three aspects: first of all,students from senior one are insufficient in vocabularies;secondly,they lack certain skills and methods for dealing with new words.Through interviewing students and teachers,this research finds that factors for causing vocabulary barriers in English reading can be various.Students may ignore the polysemy,lack the skills and methods of guessing the meanings of new words from the context and fail to comprehend the meanings of new words in different contexts.In other words,students can't master the knowledge of word formation;and for the application of the words in different situations,they only know the common meanings of them but cannot understand new words from the context.Hence,regarding the above problems and factors,this research involves how to overcome vocabulary barriers in English reading comprehension from the perspective of cognitive psychology and semantics and English reading skills.This research has focused on the vocabulary barriers in English reading from the perspective of linguistics.It summarizes main types and reasons for vocabulary barriers in English reading encountered by students from senior one.It also provides supplements for the research on barriers in English reading and supplies references for overcoming vocabulary barriers in English reading.Due to time and energy limitation,this research may fail to do comprehensive analysis on vocabulary barriers in English reading comprehension.This research only analyzes vocabulary barriers in English reading from the perspective of linguistics,and it does combine theories to do reason analysis on vocabulary barriers in English reading.For the future research direction of this topic,it is suggested to start from non-intelligent factor to analyze vocabulary barriers and related causes.In this way,it could better guiding vocabulary teaching,overcoming vocabulary barriers in English reading,and thus improve students' competences of English comprehension practically.
