In the newly revised English curriculum standards,thinking quality,language ability,learning ability and cultural awareness are listed as key elements of English quality.It means that the cultivation of quality of thinking,especially the high-level thinking ability,will not be the development goal of the excellent students,but the universal requirements for all students in the basic education stage.Critical thinking is an important part of higher-order thinking,and it is one of the important thinking qualities that middle school students need to develop.English reading is an important way to cultivate middle school students' critical thinking.For a long time,teachers have paid more attention to the mastery of language knowledge and the cultivation of language skills,while the cultivation of critical thinking ability such as student reasoning,analysis and evaluation is slightly weaker in senior school reading teaching.Therefore,how to strengthen the students' critical thinking ability in the process of high school English reading,such as prediction,questioning,analysis,reasoning and evaluation,has become an urgent problem to be solved in high school English teaching.In the teaching process,teachers should guide students to make positive predictions based on the title of the article,improve their predictive ability;find the suitable questions for students to explore from reading materials,cultivate students' ability to learn question;use mind map to improve student comparison and analysis problem ability;set the appropriate language appreciation and evaluation tasks for students,improve students' reasoning and evaluation ability.Based on schema theory and constructivist learning theory,this study starts with the understanding of the connotation of reading and critical thinking,combining the strategies of critical thinking cultivation at home and abroad and my teaching experience.The comparative teaching experiment studies two classes lasts half of one year.The author analysis the grades of the pre-and post-critical thinking test about the control class and the experimental class by using SPSS21.0,aiming to study the following questions:(1)If the reading teaching of critical thinking can contribute to the improvement of critical thinking of high school students?(2)How can teachers cultivate students' critical thinking in high school English reading teaching?The experimental data shows that the students in the experimental class have significantly higher thinking ability than the students in the control class after the English reading teaching under the guidance of critical thinking for half a year.Therefore,teachers' use of critical thinking training strategies in high school English reading classes is conducive to transforming learners' single thinking mode and improving students' critical thinking ability,such as prediction,questioning,analysis,reasoning,evaluation and so on.Based on the research,the author believes that the cultivation of critical thinking through the teaching of high school English reading teaching can improve students' critical thinking ability,but there are still many deficiencies and challenges,which require us to continuously test and explore.
