Since the Ministry of Education promulgated the “Education Informatization 2.0 Action Plan”(2018),China has paid great attention to the informatization of education and the promotion of efficient classrooms teaching with technological innovation.Therefore,the emergence of the flipped classroom has brought a new idea to modern classroom teaching.The flipped classroom puts the process of knowledge imparting at home and the process of internalizing knowledge is put on the course.The present study was conducted to investigate the use of a flipped classroom model in Primary EFL classrooms in Hangzhou.This study is mixed-method research examining flipped and non-flipped classrooms in teaching five English vowel letters in a primary school.Specifically,the researcher aimed at finding out the participating students’ and teachers’ feedback to this teaching model.Whether flipped classroom could be an pedagogy for making students more engaged in their learning,and if flipped classroom could enhance students’ learning.Four classes of Grade 4 were chosen as the participants of this study.In two classes,the flipped classroom pedagogy was adopted,and in other two classes,a traditional teacher-instructed method was used.Through the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data,the results revealed that the two participated teachers and most students had positive feedback to the use of flipped classroom pedagogy and students in the two flipped classes gained significantly in the knowledge about five English vowel letters.Also,the learning performance of students in the flipped classroom was significantly better than students in the non-flipped classrooms.
