The play "Story of Burning Books" is a historical drama based on the life stories of the ideologist and writer Li Zhi in the late Ming Dynasty. It tells the story of Li Zhi,the protagonist, who broke through the shackles of feudalism and dared to pursue his own Taoist ideal."Burning Books" ran through the drama as Li Zhi's sword to break through feudal fences. It used Li Zhi's life stories to dramatize it,so that the characters and plots in the drama can achieve the unity of historical reality and artistic reality, and more artistic aesthetics. This paper elaborate the drama creation from three aspects: criticism of the solidification of Confucianism at the end of Ming Dynasty and the enlightenment of Li Zhi's choice of life in pursuit of childlike innocence to the present from the perspective of the theme;creation a full image of Li Zhi by presenting the stage of historical figures and setting up the mediator in the middle from the aspect of character arrangement;the artistic treatment of the historical tragedy "seeking truth and resemblance" and the setting of the open structure,as well as the reference of the modernist technique of "dream" dialogue across time and space from the artistic expressions of historical truth.
