A Report On The Consecutive Interpreting Of "Technologies Applicable To Cultivation Of Medicinal Plants With The Case Of Prevalent Variety Cultivation & Planting Techniques Of Bletilla Rhizome"

With a long history,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)is a valuable medical system created by ancient Chinese people.Its medical functions have been proved by scientific research and measures.With the rapid development of China,Chinese culture and technology exert more influence to the world.Traditional Chinese Medicine is gradually accepted by the world.In order to share the achievements of TCM with the rest of the world,a workshop,named “International Workshop on Advanced Technology of Herbal Medicine for Practitioners from South and Southeast Asia”,was held in Kunming.It was sponsored by Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department,organized by Yunnan Rural Science and Technology Service Center.It served as a platform for promoting cooperation and exchange,enhancing the friendship between China and relevant countries.The author of this report worked as an interpreter of the workshop.The workshop lasted for 20 days,with 26 practitioners from 6 countries.Due to the massive quantity of courses,the author can not elaborate all of them all.Instead he chose one of the courses named “Technologies Applicable to Cultivation of Medicinal Plants with the Case of Prevalent Variety Cultivation and Planting Techniques of Bletilla Rhizome” as the object of studies in the interpreting report.This is a report on Chinese-English consecutive interpreting,which aims to make an analysis of problems and coping strategies in the process of interpreting.This report consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the transcript of the source speech and interpretation.The second chapter is about the background of the interpreting task.The third chapter is about the interpreting process which includes the preparations,interpreting implementation and post-interpreting issues.Chapter Four is case studies of the problems and coping strategies.Chapter Five is a summary of the interpreting task.Hopefully,this report may provide reference for relevant industry practitioners and interpreters.
