The curative effects and role of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)in the prevention and the treatment of chronic and major diseases are increasingly recognized and accepted by the international community.Meanwhile,foreign media began to popularize the basic knowledge of TCM.Approaching Traditional Chinese Medicine,a medical TV column hosted by Stephen Horne,introduced the basic theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine,such as Yin and Yang and five elements.Based on this TV program,a consecutive interpreting was conducted.The author found that throughout this interpreting,textual coherence was one of the interpreting problems that interpreter may encounter.Specifically,discourse coherence problem mainly embodied in the phrases with distinctive TCM feature,semantic coherence within a sentence,and logic among sentence groups.Thus,this paper explores the interpreting strategies to solve the textual coherence from the prospect of phrases with distinctive TCM features,semantic coherence within a sentence,and logic among sentence groups.Firstly,author adopts the methods of conversion of part of speech,domesticating and omitting words to lay a foundation for the coherence of sentences and sentence groups in the interpretation.Secondly,thematic progression,sequential translation and active form translation strategies are applied to solve semantic coherence within a sentence.Finally,author reconstructs the logical order in sentence groups,adjusts the logical relationship and use omission to improve the logic of the output text,which aims to improve the coherence of the whole text.Through the analysis and summary of this interpreting practice,this paper explores interpreting strategies to cope with TCM textual coherence in consecutive interpreting.It is expected to be useful in the consecutive interpreting of TCM.
