The present thesis is a study of quality standard of subtitling with special focus on the online educational videos.The published research focuses more on the translation methods and strategies.Additionally,the majority of research addresses subtitling of movies and TV series rather than those of online education videos.The study tries to construct the quality standard for E-C subtitling of online educational videos.It is done through two steps,one is by the study of the existed subtitling standards in China and abroad to arrive at the norms that govern present practices and hereby compiling the first edition of quality standard.Next,the first edition of quality standard is tested through a case study of a translation practice project: IOC Athlete Learning Gateway videos.The adequacy and feasibility of the first edition standard are examined thoroughly and revisions provided accordingly.Finally,these two lines of research are brought together in the proposal of a set of subtitling quality standard for online educational videos.This research positions itself within the theoretical framework of Reception Theory by taking an instructive approach to its subject.Given its topic and methodological approach,this research also drank from other fields of knowledge in Translation Studies,Audiovisual Translation studies,Education,among others.In response to the needs and requirements of online educational videos viewers,the proposed set of standard is based on the special concern for adequacy and readability and is envisaged as a useful tool for students and practitioners of subtitling study.
