This translation project is selected from “Creative Destruction and the Sharing Economy”.The theme of the book is focused on the hot topic: the sharing economy.Uber is used as a case study to explore the meanings of creative destruction and destructive innovation, and whether innovation and supervision are incompatible. The dissertation is innovative because rather than taking the explicitness as the subject like most papers do,the dissertation focuses on implicitness. The differences between the English and Chinese and varying degrees of formalization of both languages mean that implicitness is indispensable. In translation, although the employment of explicitness may be more frequent than that of implicitness, the application of implicitness is still necessary. Therefore,it is imperative to strengthen the research on implicitness in order to deepen the understanding of want translation is all about.Under the guidance of Halliday's systemic functional grammar, the dissertation studies the implicitness in the English-Chinese translation of economic texts from three perspectives etc.ideational implicitness(including implicitness of cultural elements, implicitness of sentences or grammatical components and rhetorical implicitness),interpersonal implicitness as well as textual implicitness with the aim of making the translation accurate and easy to understand and achieving effective communication.Through the analysis of examples in the third chapter,it can be found that when an economic text in English is translated into Chinese, the translator can adopt a strategy of implicitness to make the translation more in tune with the reading habits of target language and the translation more “faithful” and “expressive”.This paper finds that implicitness is due to the difference in the degree of formalization of source language and target language. The greater the difference in the degree of formalization between the two,the greater the effect of implicitness, and vice versa.English is hypotactic while Chinese is paratactic. Therefore, when the language is translated into a less formalized language from a more formalized one, such as from English to Chinese, manifestation diminishes, and implicitness increases. This paper hopes to offer inspiration for the English-Chinese translation of economic texts. However, this paper is limited to economic texts. In the following studies, translators can make more improvements in this aspect. It is suggested that in the translation of such texts, translators need to consider the culture factors and improve background knowledge so as to make the translation more accurate and understandable.
