The Influence Of Parenting Style On Ruminant Thinking: The Role Of Perfectionism And Self-esteem

Rumination is a kind of thinking tendency in which individuals are immersed in thinking about the causes and effects of what has happened and the negative emotions brought about by things.Literature search found that rumination is related to var ious negative emotions such as depression,which indicates that rumination has an important impact on people's lives.Studies have shown that parenting style has a predictive effect on individual rumination.There are various parenting styles in Chinese-style families.Some parents use their emotions to raise children.Some parents have no borders with their children and always refuse or overprotect their children.Different parenting styles will have different effects on the formation of children's rumination.Some studies have mentioned that parenting style also affects the individual's perfectionist tendency.If individuals always think that they are not perfect enough,long-term expectation is easy to fall into rumination in such thoughts.In order to more clarify the many influencing factors of parenting style on rumination,the study adopts two variables of perfectionism and self-esteem,discusses the internal mechanism of parental rearing style and rumination.A moderated mediating model was constructed through the research data: perfectionism played a part of mediating role between parental rearing patterns and rumination of College students.At the same time,the first half of the intermediary part is regulated by self-esteem.Using the questionnaire method and using the simple parenting style questionnaire,rumination scale,positive and negative perfectionism scale and self-esteem scale,this paper investigated the parenting style,rumination level,perfectionism tendency and self-esteem level of 1100 college students in Ganzhou City,Jiangxi Province.There are 1058 copies were effectively recovered.The data were analyzed and processed using SPSS 23 and SPSS Process.The results of the study finally showed:(1)Parents' rejection and overprotection methods have a significant positive correlation with rumination;(2)There is a significant positive correlation between negative perfectionism and rumination;(3)Negative perfectionism has a partial intermediary role between parental rearing style and rumination.The more the parents refuse,or the more they protect,the more serious the negative perfectionist tendency will be,and the more rumination will increase;(4)Self-esteem has a moderating effect on the mediating role of perfectionism in the relationship between parenting style and rumination.The higher self-esteem,the more negative perfectionism tends to rise,which leads to more rumination.The lower self-esteem,the less obvious the change of negative perfectionism tends.Finally,the theoretical and practical value of this research is elaborated,and the following conclusions are drawn: Parental refusal and overprotective parenting styles make it easier for individuals to ruminate.In this process of influence,the way parents reject and overprotect will also promote the formation of individual negative perfectionism.Negative perfectionism will lead individuals to ruminate more easily.And if the individual's self-esteem is higher,the individual is more likely to form rumination.
