China is famous for its unique classical culture, and Chinese poetry is an indispensable part of it.As a representative poet of classical literature,Su Shi leaves us a lot of precious works.Su Shi's poems are bold and unrestrained with unique style. His works have exerted an important influence on Chinese classical poetry. With the development of globalization,Su Shi's poetry has attracted more and more attention from international scholars. The study of Su Shi's poetry translation helps to communicate the brilliant Chinese culture to the world and make it more acceptable to the target language readers. At the beginning of the 21 st century,Professor Hu Gengshen pioneered the eco-translatology,which regards eco-holism as its core idea, and ecological wisdom of “harmony between man and nature” in the East as its ideological foundation and Darwin's “adaptation and selection” as its theoretical basis.Eco-translatology,which combines ecology with translation,is an emerging theory to study literary translation from an ecological perspective. This theory emphasizes that the translation process includes two stages: adaptation and selection.Adaptation is mainly the translator's adaptation to the translational eco-environment,which includes various factors.Selection focuses on the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions between the original text and the target text.In other words, only when the translator truly achieves “multi-dimensional” adaptation and at least chooses “three-dimensional”transformation in the process of translation, can he produce the appropriate translation. At present,eco-translatology has been widely applied in translation studies.Although Su Shi's poetry and eco-translatology have received sufficient attention and studies, there are few researches combining Su Shi's poetry studies with eco-translatology according to the available information. This thesis is an application of eco-translatology in Su Shi's poetry translation studies, which makes a comparative study of two English versions of Su Shi's poems translated by Xu Yuanchong andKenneth Rexroth.By studying the impact of translational eco-environment on translation, translation studies can be promoted and enriched, which proves the explanatory power and feasibility of eco-translatology.Meanwhile,the thesis introduces a macro-interdisciplinary research model, which can provide a new perspective for the study of the English translation of Chinese classical poetry.
