The Shaanxi Provincial Government Website serves as an important medium and an ideal platform for dissemination of Shaanxi's dynamic news, local culture and ideology. The translation of cultural news from the website aims to further demonstrate the progress and achievements of Shaanxi's cultural construction and to strengthen foreign cultural exchanges and cooperation. Therefore,a study on the translation of cultural news from the website is of great necessity. This report makes a detailed analysis and summary of the problems in the translation practice, which includes:1)insufficient cultural information for proper nouns translation;2)lack of cultural information for cultural-loaded translation;3)redundant cultural information.According to Relevance Translation Theory, contextual effect and relevance are two decisive factors for the success of translation.Contextual effect combines new information in utterance with context, and relevance aims to match the communicative intention of the source author with the expectation of the target reader.Sufficient contextual effect helps the target reader obtain the optimal relevance with the target text and thereby achieving a successful cross-culture communication.Under the guidance of Relevance Translation Theory, two translation methods, namely, annotation to deliver implied cultural information to the target reader so as to achieve sufficient contextual effect, and free translation for idiomatic expressions to obtain the optimal relevance should be adopted for solutions to the aforesaid difficulties. The tentative findings of this report are expected to provide enlightenment and references for translation of cultural news from government websites.
