John·Milton·Cage(1912-1992),American avant-garde musician,thinker,and experimental composer.Since the 20 th century,He has been at the center of American avant-garde music,His works and the influence of his musical ideas throughout the world.Cage's musical works feature diverse themes,novel forms,and are known for their audacity and innovation.His influence on western music is not only to break the traditional composing techniques,but also to remove the threshold of music and life and redefine the concepts of “music” and “sound”.Because of his exploration and innovation,deconstruction and subversion of tradition,It established his important position in the development of modern music in the 20 th century.A Survey of Cage's Musical works throughout his career,Most researchers have focused on and analyzed his radical experimental works of music.And yet another part of the early music creation of the Cage is not the work that the researchers pay attention to using the traditional techniques,which embody the fact that he was including the early modern music in the first half of the 20 th century,but it is the same as that of the past traditional music.It is also due to the practice of this period that the concept and form inherent in Cage and music art have a direct relevance.The purpose of this study is to explore the technical value of Cage and tradition by analyzing and describing the specific musical forms which are of great value in this part of the work.and to further understand his creative thinking and artistic concept of music.Thus,we can view modern music in the 20 th century more objectively.The researchcontents of this paper are mainly divided into the following three parts: the first chapter is a brief introduction of the composer and a brief description of the creative background,including the composer's life,artistic concept,music style and the background of each stage of creation,and so on.The second chapter is the concrete form analysis of Cage's traditional attribute music works.The author divides this part of Cage's works into the following three categories: Modal music works,tonal wandering and generalization of music works and tonal music works,respectively from their pitch structure,range cells,rhythm types and other aspects of in-depth analysis;The third chapter includes understanding the cultural trend of thought and aesthetic interest of the20 th century,the various practice ways of the composers of the 20 th century,and the practice way of Cage before and after the 1950 s.In order to further explore Cage's creative thinking and artistic ideas,find out the value and significance of the works.
