| In recent years,foreign biographies are getting more and more popular at home and abroad,especially in business,such as Steve Jobs: A Biography and Bad Blood.However,biographies about foreign artists are relatively less,while the life stories of the splendid and outstanding artists are worthy our exploration and discovery so as to know more about themselves and their works.This is a translation report on the translation of Johannes Brahms,A Biography written by Jan Swafford.The translator selects the first chapter "Hometown" of the book,which tells the origin of Johannes Brahms' s family,family environment,and so on.It is the cornerstone of the book and helpful for people to understand Johannes Brahms who was an outstanding composer in the romantic period.Based on Eugene Nida's back-transformation translation theory,this paper discusses the English-Chinese translation of biographies.According to the report,the back-transformation theory can help translators analyze sentence structure and understand the deep meaning through the surface,which is obviously helpful to understand and express the meanings accurately,especially for long English sentences.The back-transformation theory is essentially a translation strategy used to analyze sentences.Therefore,in the process of translation,the author also uses some translation skills,including liner translation,reverse translation,division and reorganization,in the hope of making the translation more consistent with the Chinese expression habits to be more idiomatic and natural on the basis of understanding the original text.This paper is an attempt for the author to explain the application of the back-transformation theory in dealing with long sentences in biographies,in the hope of providing references for subsequent biographical translation.However,this paper focuses on the accuracy and faithfulness of the content,and there are still some problems in language style and other aspects,which remains to be solved. |
