This project is an excerpt from the OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report, the official report released by OPEC on October 11,2017.This report mainly analyzes and forecasts the crude oil price movements, commodity markets, the world economy, and the world oil demand and supply. As an informative text, this report uses a lot economic terms and long sentences, which posts a great challenge for the translator to translate this report accurately. Moreover, due to the lexical and syntactic differences between English and Chinese languages,it is nearly impossible to achieve absolute equivalence in this translation project. Therefore,it is possible to appear departures from formal correspondence in the translation process. In the translation report, the author adopts the class shifts method for the economic terms of the text, and the structural shifts and the unit shifts for the long sentences. After the analysis of the selected examples, the author concludes that the category shifts has a high value in English-Chinese translation, especially in informative text.In order to follow the principle of “authenticity” and meet the expression habit of target language, the translator need to fully understand the differences between English and Chinese languages to accurately convey the original text information and to achieve the desired translation effect.
